AdSense is a separate Google product from YouTube. It acts as the financial bridge between advertisers and content creators. Think of AdSense as a bank account specifically for YouTube income. All your YouTube earnings first land in AdSense, and from there they’re transferred to your actual bank account once you hit the $100 threshold.
All YouTube earnings โ whether from ad revenue, YouTube Premium subscriptions, Super Chats, Super Stickers, or any other source โ flow through your AdSense account first before reaching you.
When Should You Create Your AdSense Account?
This is one of the most important things to get right. Many new creators make the mistake of setting up AdSense too early or at the wrong time.
Don’t Create AdSense Before You’re Eligible
If you haven’t completed YouTube’s monetization criteria yet, do not create an AdSense account. A person can only ever create one AdSense account in their entire lifetime. Creating one prematurely or creating duplicates will block your monetization permanently.
You should create your AdSense account only when you’re applying for YouTube monetization โ which requires meeting one of these criteria:

How to Create Your Google AdSense Account
When you’re eligible and apply for monetization via YouTube Studio, the second step in the 3-step process asks you to create and link an AdSense account. Here’s the exact process:
Apply for Monetization in YouTube Studio
Go to your YouTube Studio โ Earn section. Click “Apply Now” when eligible. Accept the YouTube Partner Program terms (Step 1).
Click “Start” in Step 2 (AdSense)
Select “No, I need to create one” if you don’t have an existing AdSense account. If you already have one, link that instead.
Choose a Gmail Account Wisely
Recommendation: use a different Gmail than your YouTube channel. This way, if your YouTube channel is ever hacked, your AdSense account stays safe and secure.
Select Your Billing Country
Select your country carefully. Read and accept the Google AdSense Terms of Service agreement, then click “Set Up Account.”
Fill in Your Personal Information
Keep account type as “Individual.” Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your government ID (especially PAN card). Use the address where you receive post office mail.
Verify Your Phone Number
Choose SMS or voice call, receive a 6-digit OTP, enter it and submit. Your account is now under review.
Account Approval Takes Time
After submitting, your AdSense account goes into review. This typically takes a few days, but can take 2โ3 weeks in some cases. The creator of this guide waited 8 days. Don’t tamper with anything during this period โ doing so can cause rejection.
Under 18? Here’s What to Do
If you are under 18 years old, you cannot create an AdSense account in your own name. Create it under a family member (parent, sibling) who is 18 or older. Once created, use that same person’s ID and details consistently across all verification steps โ identity verification, US tax form, and so on.
Identity Verification: 2 Methods Explained
Once your AdSense account is approved and your YouTube earnings cross $10, you’ll receive an email asking you to verify your identity within 45 days. Failing to do so will stop ads on your videos and result in demonetization.
As of March 2025, Google AdSense offers two verification methods:
Persona Method (Online)

- Requires a clear, recent photo on your ID

One-Way Decision: PIN Method is Permanent
Once you choose the PIN method (by clicking “Opt Out” of Persona), you cannot go back to Persona. Choose wisely โ if your government ID has a clear and recent photo, use Persona first.

When Does the PIN Arrive?
In India, the PIN is sent from Google’s regional offices (Mumbai or Gurugram) via standard India Post mail. The typical delivery time is 2โ3 weeks, but it can take longer if you’re in a rural area. There is no tracking number on the envelope.
Pro Tip: Talk to Your Postman
Visit your local post office branch and speak to the letter delivery staff. Give them your phone number and ask them to call you when a Google envelope arrives. This saved many creators weeks of uncertainty.
What If Your PIN Doesn’t Arrive?
If 3 weeks have passed and your PIN hasn’t arrived, you can request a Replacement PIN. Here’s everything to know about replacements:

Only after 3 weeks have passed since your last PIN request (first PIN or previous replacement).
How Many Replacements?
You can request up to 4 replacement PINs total. All will have the same 6-digit number as your original.
The 4-Month Deadline
Counting from your very first PIN request, you have 4 months to enter the PIN and verify your address. After that, ads stop running on your channel.

Entering the PIN in AdSense
Once your PIN arrives, go to your AdSense Account โ Payment section โ Verification Check. Enter the 6-digit code carefully. You only get 3 attempts โ so double-check the number before submitting. Hold the envelope in one hand and type it in with the other.

Successfully entering your PIN completes both your address verification and identity verification (if you used the PIN method). Your AdSense is now fully unlocked for payment processing.

Creating a Duplicate AdSense Account
You can only ever have one AdSense account per person. Creating a second one โ even accidentally โ will prevent approval. If you’re unsure whether you already have one, use the “I don’t know” option during setup โ Google will check automatically.
Applying via the AdSense Website Directly
Always create your AdSense account through YouTube Studio โ not the AdSense website or app. Going through Studio automatically pre-fills your channel URL and correctly links everything.
Minors Creating Their Own Account
If you are under 18, do not create an account in your own name. Use a parent or sibling’s name and information. Use their ID for all verification steps consistently. Never switch the account name afterward.
Mismatched Personal Information
Your name in AdSense must exactly match your government ID (PAN card). Don’t use abbreviations or short forms. “Ramesh Kumar Sharma” not “Ramesh Kumar.” Inconsistency during verification will cause rejection.
Clicking Your Own Ads
Never watch your own videos repeatedly to trigger ads, or click on ads running on your content. YouTube detects this as “invalid clicks” and will disable your AdSense account permanently. This is the most dangerous mistake.
Ignoring PIN & Identity Verification
Many creators โ especially those who don’t read English well โ miss the 45-day identity deadline or the 4-month address verification window. Watch the deadlines carefully. Missing them stops ads entirely.
Changing Your AdSense Account After Setup
Once your AdSense is linked to your channel and monetization is approved, do not change the AdSense account. This can cause demonetization. You can, however, update your bank account details at any time without issue.
Get PAN Card Early
PAN card is required for both identity verification and the US tax form. If you don’t have one yet, apply for it now. The process is much faster than it used to be. Don’t wait until you need it urgently.
